Faith and Art
Faith and Art, two very different concepts… or maybe not?
At the start of the lecture we will shortly review the general history of art.
Through the presentation we will overview several periods of ancient art. First, the period of Egyptian art, picturesque and unidimensional.
After it, the art of Ancient Greece which brought the innovation of three dimensions, foreshortening and perspective to the world and which was the basis for the following evolution of art for generations.
Then, we will look together for references to art and beauty in the Bible and in the Jewish texts, with references and illustrations.
Following the clarification of these basic concepts, we will enquire into the concept of harmony. For doing so, we will review a paragraph from the book “The Lights of Revival” by the Rav Kook zatsal, we will listen to an excerpt from the first symphony of Gustav Mahler and analyze portions of paintings by Marc Chagall.
As a conclusion, we will try by ourselves my approach, combining harmony between colors with harmony between forms, through an enjoyable creative experience during which each participant will receive paper and colors and will apply all the principles learned during the workshop.
